''Victor Agius, a 20-year-old youth from Xaghra Gozo, is studying art in the University of Malta. For him the gist of Christmas is the crib. Victor and the crib are synonymous and Christmas for the youth is all year round, as a crib of this type needs to begin to be constructed from summer. This year's crib is the tenth edition that is being opened for show.

Victor's crib is on biblical style and so it contains nativity figures dressed in Jewish costumes, one storey buildings with a small dome and also a very detailed geography of Palestine.

On the upper right, on a small hill there is the poor village of Bethlehem. North to this there is the city of Jerusalem. One can admire the Fortress of Antonia, King Herod's palace and also the temple. On the right of Jerusalem there is the village of Bethany and beyond it the desert of Judea. The attention in the planning of this biblical crib shows that it is done to be a retrospective of the real Palestine of 2000 years ago.

Most of the nativity figures are mechanical. Victor worked these figures in a wood and papier-mache composition and the faces and hands are modeled in terracotta. For instance these can be seen in Joseph and the Virgin who are looking for shelter from the cold night, the adoration in the stable and the shepherds shocked by the angel's appearance. Although this is a mechanical crib, Victor still paid attention to avoid excessive use of movements which he knew could distract the atmosphere of that sacred night and the attention from the grotto of Baby Jesus.

Something that impresses you in this crib is the use of perspective. The crib is over 200 feet squared and the distances in it are expressed professionally. We observe that the more the figures and buildings are distant the smaller they become, loosing their colour tone to look more distant. The way the crib is constructed in a stepped manner together with the different materials used continues to make it look bigger. Like many other Gozitan cribs Victor constructed a crib from rustic stones. However, the back part is made of papier-mache with simple forms and cold colours to create a contrast with the rustic stones that make up the front part.

Presepio 1992-2002 Di Victor Agius Cari amici benvenuti! Per la decima volta sto accogliendoli favorevolmente per vedere la mia greppia meccanica, su stile biblico che preparo ogni anno. Sembra come ieri, quando ero soltanto un dieci-anno-vecchio ed il mio padre mi ha consigliato aprire il presepio per l'esposizione e partecipare alla concorrenza di Gozo di 1992. Prima di 1992 sempre stavo giocando con le figure del presepe, statue, stavo verniciando e facendo una grande presepio statica nel paese. Duarte I dieci anni ultimo simper ho cambiato il mio presepio, ingrandito esso ed ho aggiunto gli effetti della luce e sani, figure meccaniche ed altre cose. Ogni anno il numero di ospiti aumenta ed inoltre e stato indicato sulle scanalature locali e straniere di T.V.. Il tempo di natale e allineare un momento di gioia e di pace! Vi consiglio ricordarsi di del bambino di cui la festivite stiamo celebrando. e la cosa piu magica se ogni sede ha persino un presepe molto piccola con Maria, Giuseppe ed il piccolo e dolce Jesu. Non permetta che il bambino Jesus sia sopportato in nostro mondo freddo, commerciale ed artificiale. Utilizzi la greppia per aprire il vostro cuore a lui. Apra il vostro cuore a San Giuseppe che sta cercando un posto in cui la Vegine puo dare alla luce al bambino Jesus. Ecco perche Il presepio meraviglioso perche ci ricorda dell'evento saco di Bethlehem e della relativa importanza. Il natale ha un messaggio grande per tutta l'umanita. Lasci la greppia per predicare che il figlio del dio e stato reso ad uomo ed e venuto vivere fra noi. Infine vorrei ringraziare i miei genitori e sorelle per la loro pazienza e supporto. Non posso dimenticarlo che ogni anno viene visitare il mio presepio ed apprezzare il mio lavoro fragile. Vi auguro tutti un natale allegro in pieno di pace con il bambino Jesu.

Il victor ha lavorato queste figure in un legno e la composizione nell cartapesta e le facce e le mani sono modellate in terracotta. Per esempio questi possono essere visti in Joseph e nel virgin che stanno cercando il riparo dalla notte fredda, dal adorazione nella scuderia e dagli pastori scossi dall'apparenza dell'angelo. Anche se questo un presepio meccanica, Victor ancora ha prestato l'attenzione per evitare l'uso eccessivo dei movimenti che ha conosciuto potrebbe distract l'atmosfera di quella notte sacra e dell'attenzione dal grotto del bambino Jesus. Pesebre 1992-2002 De Victor Agius queridos agradables! Por la decima vez le estoy dando la bienvenida para ver mi pesebre mecanico, en estilo biblico que preparo cada ano. Se parece como ayer, cuando era solamente un diez-ano-viejo y mi padre me anim a que abriera el pesebre para la demostracion y participara en la competicion de Gozo de 1992. Antes de 1992 jugaba con las figuras del belen, estatuas, pintaba y haca siempre un pesebre estatico grande en el casero En los diez anos pasados he cambiado mi pesebre, agrandado le y he agregado siempre efectos sanos y ligeros, las figuras mecanicas y otras cosas. Cada ano el numero de visitantes aumenta y tambien se ha demostrado en los canales locales y extranjeros de T.V.. Nel tiempo de Navidad es verdad una poca de la alegria y de la paz! Le animo a que recuerde del bebe que banquete estamos celebrando. Es la cosa mas magica si cada hogar tiene incluso un pesebre minisculo con Maria santa, Jose y el pequeo Jesus dulce. No permita que lleven al bebe Jesus en nuestro mundo comercial y artificial. Utilice el pesebre para abrir su corazon . Abra su corazon en Santo Jose que este buscando un lugar en donde la Virgen puede dar a luz al bebe Jesus. Esta es la razon por la cual el pesebre es maravilloso porque nos recuerda el acontecimiento sagrado de Bethlehem y de su significacion. Navidad tiene un gran mensaje para toda la humanidad. Deje el pesebre para predicar que hicieron el hijo del dios hombre y vino vivir entre nosotros. Finalmente quisiera agradecer a mis padres y hermanas por su paciencia y ayuda. La atencion en el planeamiento de este pesebre biblico demuestra que esta hecha para ser una retrospectiva de la Palestina verdadera hace de 2000 anos. La mayora de las figuras del natividad son mecanicas. Victor trabaje estas figuras en una madera y la composicion de la pasta de papel y las caras y las manos se modelan en terracotta. Por ejemplo estos pueden ser vistos en Jose y la Virgen que esten buscando el abrigo de la noche , de la adoracion en el establo y de los pastores dados una sacudida electrica por el aspecto del angel. Aunque esto es un pesebre mecanico, Victor todava preste la atencion para evitar el uso excesivo de los movimientos que saba podrta distraer la atmosfera de esa noche sagrada y de la atencion del grotto del bebe Jeses. Algo que le impresiona en este pesebre es el uso de la perspectiva. El pesebre este sobre 200 pies ajustados y las distancias en el se expresan profesionalmente. Observamos que cuanto mas las figuras y los edificios son distantes cuanto mes pequeos llegan a ser, soltando su tono del color para parecer mas distantes. La manera que el pesebre se construye de una manera caminada junto con los diversos materiales usados continua haciendo le mirada mas grande. Como muchos otros pesebres de Gozitan el vencedor construyo un pesebre de piedras rusticas. Sin embargo, la parte trasera se hace de pasta de papel con las formas simples y los colores frios para crear un contraste con las piedras rusticas que hacen para arriba la parte delantera.

Es scheint wie Gestern, als ich nur ein 10-Jahr-altes war und mein Vater mich anregte, die Krippe f?r Erscheinen zu ?ffnen und an der Gozo Konkurrenz von 1992 teilzunehmen. Vor 1992 spielte ich immer mit nativity Abbildungen, Statuen, malte und tat eine grote statische Krippe zu Hause. In den letzten 10 Jahren habe ich immer meine Krippe ge?ndert, vergr??ert ihm und die stichhaltigen und Lichteffekte, mechanische Abbildungen und andere Sachen hinzugef?gt. Jedes Jahr erh?ht sich die Zahl Besuchern und es ist auch auf den lokalen und fremden T.V. F?hrungen gezeigt worden. Weihnachtszeit betr?gt wirklich eine Zeit der Freude und des Friedens! Ich rege Sie an, sich vom Baby zu erinnern dessen Fest wir feiern. Es ist die magischste Sache, wenn jedes Haus sogar eine kleine Krippe mit heiligem Mary, Joseph und dem s?ssen kleinen Jesus hat. Welcome dear friends!

For the tenth time I am welcoming you to see my mechanical crib, on biblical style that I prepare every year. It seems like yesterday, when I was only a ten-year-old and my father encouraged me to open the crib for show and take part in the Gozo Competition of 1992. Before 1992 I was always playing with nativity figures, statues, painting and doing a large static crib at home.

In the last ten years I have always changed my crib, enlarged it and added sound and light effects, mechanical figures and other things. Every year the number of visitors increases and it has also been shown on local and foreign T.V. channels.

Christmas time is truly a time of joy and peace! I encourage you to remember of the baby whose feast we are celebrating. It is the most magical thing if every home has even a tiny crib with Holy Mary, Joseph and the sweet little Jesus. Do not allow baby Jesus to be born in our cold, commercial and artificial world. Use the crib to open your heart to Him. Open your heart to Saint Joseph who is looking for a place where the Virgin can give birth to Baby Jesus.

This is why the crib is wonderful because it reminds us of the sacred event of Bethlehem and its significance. Christmas has a great message for all humanity . Leave the crib to preach that the son of God was made Man and came to live among us.

Finally I would like to thank my parents and sisters for their patience and support. I cannot forget you who every year come to visit my crib and appreciate my delicate work. I wish you all a joyful Christmas full of peace with baby Jesus.
